Tom McCormack scores class top-10 at first A4DE

Byron Bay dirt bike racer, Tom McCormack, put in a solid and consistent performance at the 32nd annual Yamaha Australian 4-Day Enduro (A4DE) which wrapped up at the weekend near Lithgow, NSW.

McCormack, 17, of the Yamaha Pro Motorcycles Queensland Enduro Team, said he was pleased to have crossed the finish line of the challenging race ninth in the E1 Class.

About 260 riders competed in the event, with nearly 50 in the E1 Class alone.

“The A4DE is a pretty tough event, you are on the bike for about seven hours a day, and a lot can go wrong,” McCormack said.

“I didn’t have any problems and was happy to finish it. Next year I can focus on getting a higher result, I’m looking forward to next year already.

“I had fun riding it, but I didn’t have the speed – I didn’t feel right the whole time I was there, it was one of those weeks I couldn’t ride.

“I learnt a lot, now I’m just gonna work with my trainer some more an find out what went wrong and come back next year swinging.”

McCormack said he was now focused on preparing for his next race: rounds three and four of the Yamaha Australian Off-Road Championship (AORC) being held at Conondale (QLD) May 1st and 2nd.

“I’m going to be spending heaps of time on the bike over the next few weeks,” he said.

“I’m looking forward to going really good up there, I know the track really well, I know the ground. It’s going to be a good one I reckon.”
